With an objective of universally improving and encouraging animated excellence within a 2D environment, the "2D OR NOT 2D Festival" offers here special recognition to an animated 'scene' or 'sequence' within an animated film. (Even bad films can have great animation in them!) Consequently, complete films should be submitted to this category... or even edited trailers in the case of longer films... after which the judging panel will select animation within that film that reflects the criteria of this category.
Best All-category Film.
An 'All-category Film' is a film that has been created using any frame-by-frame animation technique... i.e. 2D, 3D, Claymation, Cut-out, Puppet, etc.

A 'Student Film' is regarded as an animated film that has been completed by an individual who has been (or is) in fulltime education while the film was in production. 'All-category' animated films are acceptable in this category.

A 'Digital Media Production' is deemed as an animated film or sequence that has been generated, initiated or is intended for an totally digital environment... i.e. such as a Website, a hand-held device, a video game, etc.

(Even bad films can have great animation in them!) Consequently, complete films... or edited trailers in the case of longer productions... should be submitted to this category, after which the judging panel will select animation within that film that reflects the criteria of this category. (Note: "Golden Pencil" awards will be presented to the best entries in each category, and "Merit" awards given to any runners-up who significantly impress the judges. However, the judges do reserve the right to withdraw an award if they feel that the quality of entries in any particular category are not considered to be up to the required standard. )
Roy E Disney Award. (Not in competition.)
This is a special non-competitive jury award that recognizes a significant contribution that has been made to the advancement of animation around the world. The recipient can either be an individual or an organization. The allocation of this award will not be announced until the presentation ceremony. If the jury consider that the award is not deserved in any particular year it will not be awarded.
